My Clingy Toddler

They told me it would happen. There's even a phrase for it in Korean, called 아우 타다 or 'suffer a younger sibling'. I guess I only half believed them when they said my toddler would become very clingy near the due date of my second baby. I mean, how could he really understand what was going to happen in a couple of months? But one day, it just started. The constant, 'Mummy, mummy, mummy!' and wanting to be held. The crying and the tantrums. Hazzy seems to want all the cuddles and kisses from mum before he has to share them with his sibling. It's sweet in a way, so I try to soothe him the best I can, but it is trying at times.

If you think about it, it is a huge change in Hazzy's life. Suddenly, my not yet 2 year old will become an elder brother. He will have to share, love, lead and sometimes even protect his younger sibling. But he will also receive love and companionship in return. It is amazing the instant bond that forms between siblings just because they are related. It may be a love-hate relationship, but a strong bond, nonetheless. I am thankful that Hazzy will be able to experience this relationship and mature through it.

Hazzy, your life is about to turn upside down. But in a while, you wouldn't want it any other way.
