Some of you may have seen from my profile that I described myself as a 'compulsive crafter'. What does this mean? It means I suddenly get strong urges to do certain craft projects. A blank wall might trigger it. Or seeing a pile of coloured paper. Sometimes just reading a post on the web about a cool craft project. The problem is, because these urges come so suddenly, I may not have the appropriate tools ready for the project. However, nothing can stop me from going ahead with it. So I end up making do with what I have. Today the trigger came from my boring door entrance. This is what it looks like:

Everything was just so white. Not to mention the bare walls. Something had to be done.
Now. So I decided to tackle the three white frames on the IKEA shoe rack.

I wanted to add some colour to these frames. I remembered seeing from a picture somewhere where they dressed up ordinary white frames by using coloured inner frames. So I decided to colour the inner paper frames with acrylic paint. Easy enough, I thought.

But rarely does compulsive crafting go without problems. The brush I was using to colour the frames started shedding. The hairs would stick to the frames as I painted. I thought maybe if I just kept brushing over them, the hairs would fall off. But I just ended up with coloured hairs stuck to the frames. I had to use my fingers to get them off which left finger marks on them. So I brushed on more paint, which left new hairs on the frame. Of course the ideal way to solve this problem would be to use another brush. But compulsive crafters don't have time to rummage through shelves to look for a different brush that may or may not be there. So I just repeatedly painted and picked up hairs and painted. After I was done, I realised the colour wasn't quite what I imagined it to be. I was going for a more pastel look, while the colours on the frame were more of a neon colour. I though to myself, 'Maybe after it dries the shades will get lighter?', which made no sense at all. But I pushed on.

So this is the result . Not quite what I wanted but at least I got some colour there. I'm contemplating whether to put them on the wall or do something else with the wall there. But I guess I'll just have to leave that for another compulsive crafting moment.
