The Christmas tree is up (almost).

It's one month before Christmas eve. The time has finally come when it's totally ok to be excited about Christmas. So we need to get the Christmas tree out, right? But wait, we don't have any floor space for a tree. Especially with a crawling baby at home, a wobbly tree with dangling things on it is just not an option for us. Then it's a 2D Christmas tree for us this year. But how do you decorate a wall Christmas tree?

Well, my kids, especially the 5 year old has really gotten into the Woolworths World Explorer cards these last few weeks. So I splurged and bought the $5 album and announced to everyone that we were collecting cards. In came the card donations and even a map donation from generous friends. We even did a card swap day. I've really enjoyed learning about different countries and finding where they are in the map with Hazzy. So I decided to stretch his interest even further and do a unit study on 'Christmas Around the World' with him as we lead up to December. And we will decorate this tree with flag ornaments of different countries.

As a precursor to starting the unit, we made a huge Christmas tree today to hang on the wall. We got out all the different colour crayons that we had and just went crazy. My cautious 5 year old coloured really neatly and densely until his arms hurt and he had to stop after 10 minutes. My free spirited 3 year old coloured up, down, round and around using all the different shades of green she could get her hands on until I had to stop her because she insisted on using pink as a finishing touch. How different these two are.

And here is the un-decorated Christmas tree. By the time it's Christmas, it will be adorned with colourful ornaments that reminds us of the many diverse people around the world who celebrate Christmas.

"...I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb..." (Revelation 7:9)
