Get Busy Living

Today, I went to a fundraising luncheon to support literacy and sewing classes for disadvantaged women in Congo. These women, mostly single parents, rarely went to school. Which means that many of them are illiterate and have a hard time supporting their family.

This fundraising reminded me about the wider world out there. Places where you couldn't feel safe in your own home. Where women were brutally raped and family members were lost by civil war. I can't believe how different my life is. I'm sitting here, looking at my 7 month old baby happily playing in front of me, while women in Africa are wondering how they will get by another day. Compared to them, all my problems, like Hazzy not napping any more, seemed so insignificant. These women would love to have what I have.

So I decided, no more grumbling. I'm gonna get busy living, making the best of what I have. I'm gonna do something about the poverty and violence in this world, even if it's just saying a word of prayer for those who are in pain. Life is too short to be selfish.
