Baby Hope has made it to 28 weeks! Praise God! I am officially in my third trimester of this pregnancy and Hope has a 90% chance of survival if she is born now. I was so thankful this morning that I got all choked up. It isn't too long now until we will meet Hope face to face.
Last week during my prenatal check up the doctor announced that my pregnancy is now low risk, which means I can do a bit more physically. And now that I am nearing the end of this pregnancy, my nesting instincts has kicked in, as well. Everywhere I look, I can see tons of things that need to be done before Hope comes home. So it's going to be 12 weeks of nesting from now on. (Don't worry. I'll make sure hubby does all the heavy lifting.)
I've already sorted Hazzy's outgrown clothes and sold them on Gumtree. This week my aim is to sort, sell, and store all the kids' clothes. I will share my decluttering attempts with you because I know we all feel a sense of freedom watching other people get rid of stuff.
Here are some tips on selling outgrown kid's clothes on Gumtree.
1. Sort and mend all the clothes you're going to sell
- Grab a big box and collect all outgrown clothes. Sort clothes into similar sizes and items. While you are sorting, check for any stains or tears and wash and mend as necessary.
2. Sell clothes in bulk
- Unless they are major brand name clothes, you'd be better off selling clothing in bulk. I advertised my post as: Bulk Boys Size 2-3 Clothes (54 items)
3. Take photos of clothes by items
- You can post up to 10 photos on Gumtree per post, so make the most of it. I put like items together and took photos of each group. I uploaded 6 photos and they were grouped into shorth sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, shorts, long pants, pyjamas, and winter jackets. I just put them on my bed and used my phone camera.
4. Don't get sentimental when pricing
- When you are selling used items, you need to think in terms of the buyer. Will you be willing to pay this price for these items? Will you be willing to go all the way to pick up these items for this price? Keep in mind that people can get kids' clothing for as little as 50c at Salvos. Because most of the clothes I was selling were second-hand clothes, I sold them for less than 40c per item. I was happy to offer such a low price since I was eager to get rid of clutter in our small two-bedroom townhouse.
5. Be very informative when writing the description
- The last thing you want is for someone to show up and decide not to buy your item after seeing it. It's a waste of time and a lot of disappointment for both of you. Be informative about exactly what you are selling and of any issues they should know about beforehand. I listed all of the items I was selling (i.e. 6 short sleeve shirts, 6 short sleeve collared shirts etc.) and made it known that some items had paint stains on them but were still good for everyday wear. Also, make sure to highlight your selling point. I pointed out that my price was only 40c/item.
6. Be safe
- These people will be coming to your home. Although it is a great way to meet locals, you should also be wary. I made sure that hubby was home when the buyer was coming to collect the clothes. If that is not possible, try meeting in a public place, like in front of the local shops or library.
Why don't you try some decluttering this week and gain some pocket money?
